Ever since I discovered paganism in late 200 living in Minnesota, I soon realized that things made so much more sense to me than anything else did. Then when I learned that Christianity took shape and formed around paganism, that to me made even more sense.
It was not until later after I had attended some of the local CUUPS gatherings that I felt more comfortable incorporating my spiritual path with my focus as a DJ. Later on in 2008 I began hosting a internet radio program called St Cloud Pagan Radio with the entire purpose to help bring all pagans together in the spirit of Unity. Unfortunately there were those who did not want unity due to a huge rift that had occurred a few years before which I did not know about till I was educated about it. At that time it felt like I had to choose sides, which I did not want to have to do that is just not the person I am at all, you make me choose sides and I walk away from everything and everyone.
Then when I felt the time was right to do my best to form a group where we could hold regular gatherings together as a community, I was told to steer clear of certain people because of the rifts that had taken place. It was then I started to question as to what took place that had caused all the rifts but to only get silence from others. Later on as the group had taken shape and people were starting to join and be a part of something which I felt was a good positive place for others to gather, certain people decided to try to overtake what I had begun and started bad mouthing what I had done. Nonetheless, I continued to do what I felt was right and ignored what I was being told by others to later on be accepted by elders and others who had recognized what I was trying to accomplish and accepted it. To this day what I do see is there are those who thrive upon backstabbing and bad mouthing those who do not conform to being just wiccan or doing things the wiccan way which I find to be very distasteful and disrespectful. I also see those who make light of what others do for a living or mock their spiritual path which leads me to question "are these people actually pagan?" or do they just claim to be with no clear understanding as to what is to be pagan.
The rifts that have taken place are by those who want total control over events, and want others to follow one certain path for rituals which to me and it is just my opinion it is the wrong thing to do as paganism covers many spiritual paths from Wiccan, Heathen, Druid, Norse, and many more. Paganism is a very large umbrella which covers so many different forms of earth centered religion and we need to be more accepting of other people's paths and what they do instead of criticizing and making light of the facts. The way I look at this is if you cannot respect someone for their spiritual path and who they are then just walk away and do not say anything at all for all you will do is cause more damage then good.
Rifts do NOT need to happen and the ones that have occurred can be fixed if people would look past their own foolish pride and work together as a community to do what is right for the others who look to us for knowledge and understanding.
I love the fact that there are festivals and large gatherings taking place each year for all of us to come together in friendship and a sense of family to enjoy each other’s company, to listen to great music by pagan musicians we all know and love. To celebrate our spiritual paths and journeys, to learn from each other and be accepted for who we are as pagans.
Earlier this week, I had spoken with the coordinator of Pagan Unity Festival(Summerland) she and I have the same goal, to bring everyone together as a community and heal the rifts that have occurred. I admire and respect what they are doing at Summerland which I hope to be a part of soon!
It still seems like not everyone communicates openly and sadly when I put out posts all I hear is silence which saddens me but I keep moving forward and will keep doing what I feel is right to create a positive presence for everyone not just in the pagan community but also in my own community by doing volunteer work, serving the residents as a first responder, and building up my radio studio.
My journeys continue and are never ending
